Instructor Training

Driving instructors come from all sorts of backgrounds – so there’s every reason why driving instruction could be the career for you. You simply need enthusiasm, the ability to get on with people and the desire to inspire others towards success.

Why Train as an Instructor?

Most instructors agree that their previous jobs never gave them such a tremendous sense of job satisfaction. As you teach your pupils you’ll see their confidence and skills grow. You’ll encourage them to overcome challenges and achieve an important life skill – a skill that gives them the freedom of the open road. And you’ll be proud of their success – because their success is your job well done.

A huge Opportunity.

People will always need to learn to drive, so there’ll always be a need for driving instructors, as the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) continues to develop the driving test and introduce measures to make our roads safer, there is a rise in the number of lessons being taken. Currently the DSA research shows the average pupil requires 45hrs professional tuition and over 20hrs private tuition to get to test standard.

What can I earn as a driving instructor?

Full-time instructors can earn between £30k and £40k. But getting to this level takes time, as you’ll need to build your customer base and generate customers through referrals and personal recommendations.

You’ll be self-employed, so it’s up to you to make the business work. Busiest times are after students’ lessons – or after people finish work. That could mean working some evenings and weekends. It is certainly not a 9-5 job, although it can be if that is what you want. As your own boss you can decide when you work and when you don’t!
